Early inspiration and discovering the possibilities

Back in high school, we were fortunate to have college counselors visiting us from various universities, primarily from the United States. Seeing pictures of campuses, students, and activities sparked my desire to study abroad from a young age. Access to information about international universities early on allowed me to start preparing and planning ahead. I believe that the sooner you begin, the better. One of the best resources I had was a college counselor who worked at my high school. She not only taught economics but also guided us through the admissions process, helping us connect with the right universities.

Diversifying Applications: The Key to Success

When preparing to study abroad, I applied to five universities in the United States and one in Colombia, strategically diversifying my applications portfolio. My college counselor taught me the importance of this approach to improve my chances of getting admitted. Platforms like the “Common Application” made the application process more convenient, but gathering all the necessary paperwork can still be challenging. Thankfully, most universities have dedicated international admissions departments to assist you throughout the process. These universities show genuine interest in admitting international students, often following up continuously on your application.

Choosing Nebraska, United States

While I knew I wanted to pursue my undergraduate studies in the United States, I initially had limited knowledge about Nebraska. Nevertheless, I was open to seizing the opportunity that Creighton University presented. Creighton’s School of Business was highly competitive, boasting excellent rankings, and the campus life seemed vibrant and fulfilling (which it truly was!). Although I had never been to Omaha, my family and friends were incredibly supportive, making my relocation process smoother. If you are contemplating studying abroad, I encourage you to take the leap! You will make friends from around the world, access high-quality education, and gain valuable internship experiences.

A journey worth taking

My journey as an international student from Ecuador to the United States was filled with adjustments, challenges, and triumphs. Studying abroad offers a wealth of opportunities for personal and academic growth. By starting early, diversifying your applications, and seeking guidance from resources like college counselors, you can increase your chances of success. Embrace the unknown and immerse yourself in a new culture and environment. Studying abroad is a transformative experience that can shape your future in unimaginable ways. Congratulations on considering this exciting endeavor, and best of luck on your journey towards higher education!
